Magical Warfare (Japanese: 魔法戦争 Hepburn: Mahō Sensō) is a Japanese light novel series written by Hisashi Suzuki and illustrated by Lunalia. As of July 2013, 6 volumes have been published by Media Factory under their MF Bunko J label. A manga adaptation by You Ibuki started serialization in the manga magazine Monthly Comic Gene on April 15, 2013. An anime television series adaptation by Madhouse began airing from January 9, 2014.

Takeshi Nanase (七瀬 武 Nanase Takeshi)

The male protagonist. A high school boy, talented in kendo with serious personality who has a somewhat dark past and cold relationship with his family, and, due to certain circumstances, forms a fake relationship with his childhood friend Kurumi. For some reason, since around middle school, he doesn't dare to call her "Kurumi" anymore, instead resorting to "Isoshima-san", which is too polite for their long-term acquaintance. Their relationship is one of the main conflict sources between him and Gekkou, his younger brother. He gained evasive magic after Mui turned him to a magician. His Aspect (a tool that acts as a focal point through which magicians project their power) is a sword that has the height and weight of a kendo sword, named "Twilight" by it's previous owner.
Mui Aiba (相羽 六 Aiba Mui)

One of female protagonists. A magician who was found by Takeshi when she collapsed on school ground, she then accidentally turns him into magician. Uses acceleration magic. She tries to bring back her older brother from Trailer's influence. When Takeshi and friends were enrolled in Subaru Magic Academy, she was transferred to Class C as punishment by the directress. Her Aspect is a gun she named "Arthur". She seems to have feelings for Takeshi.
Kurumi Isoshima (五十島 くるみ Isoshima Kurumi)

The other female protagonist. Takeshi's childhood friend and his "fake girlfriend". She became a magician and gained transformation magic. Ever since she was young, her astonishing beauty made her a regular target from several men, even university students while she was still at middle school. After a traumatizing experience with a stalker, Takeshi pretends to be in a relationship with her to keep boys away from her. Despite being initially pegged as second female protagonist, as the story progress she become more like the actual heroine; with her traumatic past linked with Takeshi and Gekkou, her complex relationship with both, and the affections Takeshi, Gekkou, and Takao Oigami all harbor toward her. She later also becomes Takeshi's reason for pushing his limit to increase his power to fight all-out with Gekkou. Her Aspect is a lipstick. Despite being in a fake relationship, she holds genuine feelings for Takeshi.
Kazumi Ida (伊田 一三 Ida Kazumi)

Takeshi's friend, who appears and acts like a punk with his bleached spiky hair, earrings, and skull ring. Actually has a soft heart, very carefree, and has a sister complex toward his little sister. He became a magician and gained destruction magic, which allows him to produce flames. His Aspect is a ring.
