AKB0048 Wikia

In the beginning of the 21st century, a world war breaks out over interplanetary travel tech. The environment is pretty much destroyed so mankind leaves Earth and starts Star Calender 00. Entertainment and songs become heavily regulated and eventually banned due to their power to move people, but a brave idol group puts on guerrilla performances in the name of a famous act from earlier times that sang to Earth's bitter end, AKB48. The illegal revival group's name is... AKB0048.

AKB48 (read "A.K.B. Forty-eight") is a Japanese idol girl group. As of November 2013, the group has 89 members. The girls range in age from early teens to mid-20s. Produced by Yasushi Akimoto, it is one of the highest-earning musical acts in the world, with 2012 record sales of over US$226 million in Japan. It has achieved such popularity in Japan that it has been characterized as a social phenomenon.

As of January 2013, the group's eighteen latest singles topped the Oricon Weekly Singles Chart. In 2010, "Beginner" and "Heavy Rotation" placed, respectively, first and second in the list of Japan's best selling singles for that year. In 2011 and 2012, AKB48's singles occupied the top five spots of the Oricon Yearly Singles Chart. As of May 2013, the group has sold over 21.85 million CDs, and it holds the record for most singles sold in Japan by a female group with its 2013 single "Sayonara Crawl", which sold for more than 1.87 million copies.

AKB48
is named after Akihabara (Akiba for short), the area in Tokyo where the group's theater is located. The idea of AKB48's producer Yasushi Akimoto was to create a girl group that, unlike a regular pop group, which gives occasional concerts and that is mostly seen on TV, would have its own theater and perform there on a daily basis; the fans would always be able to go and see the girls live. AKB48 still performs at the theater daily, with tickets distributed by lottery. Akimoto has also expanded the AKB48 concept to several sister groups throughout Japan, and all over Asia

Concept AKB48 Theater in Akihabara, Tokyo AKB48 was founded based on the "idols you can meet" concept. The group's producer Yasushi Akimoto decided to create an idol group that, unlike a regular idol group that gives occasional concerts and that is mostly seen on TV, would have its own theater and perform there on a daily basis; the fans would always be able to go and see the girls live. AKB48 performs at the theater daily; because of demand, tickets are now distributed only via a lottery. The AKB48 Theater is located in the Don Quijote store in Akihabara, Tokyo.

The group is split into several "teams": Team A, Team K, Team B and Team 4. Having several teams not only allows the group to reduce the load on its members, since a daily concert at the theater is given by only one team, but also gives AKB48 opportunity to perform in several places and even countries simultaneously. Each of the teams also has a unique image. According to member Misaki Iwasa, Team A represents freedom, Team B is very idol-like with cutesy costumes, while Team K has a strong and powerful image.
According to an early press release, the group intended to have 16 members on each of three teams to make a total member count of 48 but had varied the member count over time, and had as many as 92.A number of aspiring members (so-called trainees or kenkyūsei (研究生)) learn the group's songs and are appointed as understudies for the main members, so that a replacement is always available. In addition to singing performances, members are heavily promoted throughout the Japanese mass media. The group regularly holds "handshake events", where fans get a chance to shake hands with the group's members.

AKB48 and its sister groups significantly boost their record sales by the addition of special gimmicks to the CD, including collectible pictures, handshake lottery tickets, and voting vouchers for the annual general election, for which it was reported that fans may buy hundreds and thousands of copies to boost their favorite member's ranking.

Membership AKB48 holds the Guinness World Record for the Largest Pop Group. As of November 7, 2013, the group consists of 89 girls, divided among several teams: Team A with 19 members, Team K with 20 members, Team B with 22 members, and Team 4 with 16 members. There are 10 aspiring members who are grouped as kenkyūsei (研究生?, trainees). There are AKB48 members who have been transferred to overseas sister groups, and ones who hold concurrent positions with AKB48's sister groups.

AKB48 members are girls whose age ranges from early teens to 20-plus. They are selected from auditions that are held regularly in Japan. Members of the group are not allowed to have boyfriends, and must be "well-behaved." If they "misbehave", they may be punished or expelled from the group. It's an old rule that many idol groups follow including groups from Hello!Project. The member lineup often changes as when girls get older, they "graduate" from the group, and are replaced by members promoted from the trainees. Monica Hesse of The Washington Post describes the AKB48 audition process as "rolling American Idol-esque".

The group has publicized special events for choosing the promotional and recording lineup for some of its singles. In 2009, the concept of sōsenkyo (総選挙?, "general elections") was introduced. To obtain a ballot, voters have to buy the group's latest "election single." The members who receive the most votes will get to participate in the recording of AKB48's next single, and are heavily promoted. The top vote getter earns the right to be the center performer during the group's live performances. Votes cast for the 2011 election exceeded 1 million, and the single "Everyday, Katyusha", that contained a voting ticket for the election, set a new Japanese all-time record for weekly sales of a CD single. The 2012 election had almost 1.4 million votes, and the 2013 election had 2.6 million votes.

Another selection method, AKB48's rock-paper-scissors tournaments, was introduced in 2010 for the group's 19th single "Chance no Junban". Members of AKB48 and its sister groups compete against each other in the knockout tournament in order to be part of the recording and promotional lineup for AKB48's next single. The participants dress up in various costumes.

Chihayafuru

Chihayafuru (ちはやふる)
is a manga series written and illustrated by Yuki Suetsugu, serialized in Be Love and published by Kodansha. It is about a school girl, Chihaya Ayase, who after seeing her sister become a fashion model, is inspired by a new classmate to take up Hyakunin Isshu karuta competitively. It has been adapted into an anime television series, screening on Nippon Television and Crunchyroll from 5 October, 2011.

The manga has won the Manga Taisho Award and the Kodansha Manga Award. Since its fourth volume was released in March 2009, it has regularly appeared on the Japanese Comic Ranking chart, and in August 2011 was estimated to have sold over 4.5 million copies. Its popularity has boosted the profile of competitive karuta in Japan.

Characters:
MeeT
Chihaya Ayase (綾瀬千早 Ayase Chihaya)
is a determined school girl who "possesses a remarkable hearing ability". She believes that by persevering in karuta, she will meet her childhood friend Arata again, and begins a karuta club at her high school with Taichi. She is the main protagonist of the Chihayafuru series.
Chihaya is a tall and slim teenage girl with long brown hair and brown eyes. She is also considered beautiful and stunning. Chihaya usually wears her school uniform when at school. When she isn't at school, she wears very fashionable clothes (hand-me-downs from her sister). She also wears many clothes with Daddy Bear on it, even when she practices karuta.
When she was 12 years old she had short hair, much like Taichi's current hair but shorter and showing her ears. She had a very tomboyish look back then. When she was in middle school, her hair grew longer about shoulder length, and she wore her school's uniform.
She is very determined, and a total tomboy. She also very outgoing, kind, has a short temper, and possesses good reflexes.
Chihaya is sort of absent-minded, but has been noted to occasionally have extremely keen focus. Chihaya gives others her trust easily, and can be deceived with little effort. She is seen as good-natured and easy-going, and as straightforward as her style of karuta. She often says the first thing that pops into her head, much to the dismay of those around her. She is also extremely competitive towards anyone she perceives as a rival, friend or foe, and can be very petty. Though she's pretty, everyone called her as 'beauty in vain'.

Plot

Chihaya Ayase is a girl who has spent most of her life simply supporting her sister in her model career. That changes when she meets a boy named Arata Wataya, a talented karuta player who recognizes the potential Chihaya has to become a great player. As Chihaya takes on a new dream of becoming Japan's best karuta player, she is soon separated from her karuta playing friends as they grow up. Now in high school, Chihaya still continues to play karuta in the hope that she will one day meet her friends again. Development Yuki Suetsugu belonged to a karuta club in senior high school, and feels that the school years are a period of a person's life where "you can dedicate the most genuine part of yourself to something". The name of the series comes from the first five syllables of a poem in the Hyakunin Isshu poetry anthology, which is printed on the karuta cards.

The manga has been serialized in Be Love since 2007, and has been collected by Kodansha into 16 bound volumes as of December 2011, which is also available in eBook format. The manga is licensed in Taiwan by Tong Li Publishing. The manga became the 20th best selling manga in Japan in 2013 with 2,311,857 estimated sales in period.

Fate/Zero takes place 10 years prior to the events of Fate/stay night, detailing the events of the Fourth Holy Grail War in Fuyuki City. Originally founded by the Einzbern, Tohsaka, and Matou families, the war involves seven Masters and seven Servants under seven classes: Saber, Lancer, Archer, Rider, Caster, Assassin and Berserker.

After being defeated in three successive wars for the Holy Grail, the Einzbern family is determined to win the next one at any cost and elects to hire the notorious Magus Killer, Kiritsugu Emiya, to become their representative in spite of his reputation as an unconventional and ruthless hitman. For the next eight years, he prepares the war in the Einzbern stronghold while unexpectedly forming a family with Irisviel von Einzbern, who is to become the vessel for the Grail, and their daughter, Illyasviel. However, Kiritsugu must contend with six formidable opponents, all participating in the war for their own reasons.

From one of the three founding families, the magus Tokiomi Tohsaka wants to achieve Akasha through the Holy Grail, receiving support from the priest Risei Kotomine and his son, Kirei Kotomine, who is also unexpectedly a master in the war. Unlike Tokiomi, Kirei has no direction in life and soon sets his sights on Kiritsugu as an answer to the frustrating lack of meaning in his life.

Meanwhile, Kariya Matou becomes a Master after learning Tokiomi's younger daughter, Sakura, was adopted into the Matou family. In hopes of saving her from suffering at the hands of ZoukenMatou, he agrees to win the Holy Grail in exchange for her freedom to return to her family.

After learning of the war and taken by arrogance, Clock Tower magus and lecturer Kayneth Archibald El-Melloi decides to join the battle to increase his own prominence within the Mage's Association. However, his dismissive attitude towards the radical theories of his student, Waver Velvet, drives the young man to steal Lord El-Melloi's artifact and participate in the war in order to force the Mage's Association to recognize his genius.

When a seventh magus fails to answer the Grail's call, a serial killer named Ryuunosuke Uryuu is chosen to become the final Master in the war. Seeking exciting new ways of killing people, he winds up summoning a Servant from an occult book and proceeds to commit as many unusual murders as he can with the help of his Servant.

As the war begins, only one will emerge victorious.

ServantsServants

Saber
King Arthur, the same character from Fate/stay night. Known as the King of Knights, she maintains a high code of honour. ArcherGilgamesh,

Caster Bluebeard
(Gilles de Rais), a Servant who derives pleasure from first providing his victims a moment of relief before terrorizing them and then killing them. Expresses an interest in Saber because he has mistaken her for Jeanne d'Arc, with whom Bluebeard has an infatuation.

Assassin

Wake Up, Girls! Official Trailer

On June 10, the official site for the anime project Wake Up, Girls! Progress on the anime is starting to heat up.

Wake Up, Girls! is a new anime by director Yutaka Yamamoto, who also worked on the anime Lucky Star. The anime is picking up attention for bringing together other staff from Lucky Star, including Touko Machida, who is in charge of the script and composition, and Satoru Kousaki (Monaca), who is in charge of the music.

The election of seven voice stars for the main cast, who were decided on at an audition last fall, is also picking up a lot of attention. Even though the official site has just opened, information on the main cast has already been revealed. Also, director Yamamoto, Machida, and Kousaki, as well as voice actress Emiri Kato will appear at Wonder Festival 2013 on July 28 at a special event. During this event, the chosen seven voice stars will be announced for the first time.

Wake Up, Girls! is a coming of age story that takes place in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Tohoku, and follows girls who are aiming to become idols. The seven characters, some of whom carry wounds on their hearts and some of whom are searching for a place to belong, will confront the conflicts and troubles they carry with them each day. This success story depicts these seven girls, who are mutually opposite of each other, as they combine their power and move forward one step at a time toward reaching their goals. The main cast consists of seven voice stars who broke through the over 2,000 applicants from across Japan who auditioned to rise to the top. However, each one has no experience in the field of voice acting. Aiming to have their debut very soon, the girls are completely devoting themselves to the work, doing nothing but relentless lessons. Viewers’ feelings toward the anime may become stronger due to this too.

Speaking on this anime, director Yamamoto explained, “This anime is set in Miyagi Sendai, and from ‘Tohoku,’ the energetic and free girls are dramatically portrayed. The seven girls come together, and though mixed with humanity and the human condition, they aim for the brilliant idol stage, behaving in earnest. Please watch and support these dazzling and beautiful girls.” With the staff of Lucky Star getting together again after six years, the main cast was decided upon. Thereafter, the main visual of the girls looking down on the city of Sendai was released. Keep an eye out for more information on this anime to come.

Chapter 1 Preview Summary Chapter 1:
"The Wyvern Has Landed"
First Summary:Edit In 2010 a.t.b., the Holy Britannian Empire, while continuing its longstanding conflict with the E.U., suddenly invaded the eastern nation of Japan and renamed it Area 11. As a result of this, the Japanese in all other parts of the world were given the fate of exiles as Elevens as well. After seven years, the continuously disadvantaged E.U. army gathers Elevens that are not formal citizens and establishes the “W-0” Unit for the sake of facing the enemy in dangerous operations with extremely low survival rates. The E.U. Army’s 132nd Regiment fails in recapturing St. Petersburg, and becomes surrounded by the Britannian Army in the city of Narva. The W-0 Unit is handed the order to undertake the Narva withdrawal operation for the sake of rescuing them. Akito Hyuuga also heads to the battlefield and pilots the W-0’s Knightmare Frame, the Alexander. Anou, the commander of the W-0, plans to protect the 132nd Regiment by sacrificing Akito and the other Eleven soldiers. However, the mistake of that plan was clear to anyone’s eyes. At that time, Anou’s adjutant, Leila Malkal…And so, will Akito be able to survive on the cruel battlefield?

  Second Summary:
Akito Hyuuga was on the worst battlefield.
The Narva withdrawal strategy, for the sake of rescuing the European Union’s (E.U.) 132nd Regiment which was surrounded by the Britannian Army The self-destruct system which had been installed in the Alexander Knightmare Frames, and the comrades who die due to the incompetent commander of the W-0 who depends on kamikaze runs. Akito unfolds an aimless battle that ends on this battlefield of adversity. And when everyone expected the annihilation of the unit, the W-0 Unit’s staff officer Leila Malkal moves… Their homeland Japan, which was occupied by Britannia and renamed “Area 11”. The aftereffects of that are received, and many Japanese living in E.U. territory were housed in internment/refugee camps. The only path that remained for Akito was to continue fighting for the sake of living in the land of the E.U. while being despised as an Eleven. By sharpening himself like a knife, Akito survives every day. However, he wasn’t the only Eleven who hadn’t lost his fangs and continued to fight for the sake living. The group led by Ryo Sayama commences a certain plan in order to win their freedom. As various expectations swirl around, will Akito be able to survive in the E.U.

K-ON! (Anime)

K-ON! (けいおん!) is the anime adaption of the same-called manga by Kakifly, which was produced by Kyoto Animation and aired in Japan between 2009 and 2010 in two seasons. The anime became a world-wide success and allowed the franchise to gain much more depth by highlighting facts that the manga did or could not do. The anime also introduced real music, partly based on lyrics from the manga but mostly entirely new composition. The music from the anime contains several "Original Soundtracks", "Character Image Songs" for most individual characters and several musical productions by the main band, Ho-Kago Tea Time.

Story revolves around five Japanese high school girls who join their school’s Light Music Club. The show follows the daily lives of each member and shows their interactions with each other, their teachers, friends and families. At first, despite being successful in saving the club from being disbanded, each member brings in her own sorts of problems to prevent a strict and structured training. The guitarist Yui Hirasawa has no experience in playing musical instruments or reading sheet music and usually forgets already managed progresses, be it in her musical or academic career. Drummer Ritsu Tainaka often forgets to fulfill her responsibilities as the club's president and usually rushes at the drums. The bassist Mio Akiyama is, in contrast to her Ritsu's hyperactive nature, a shy scaredy-cat with immense stage fright. The keyboardist Tsumugi Kotobuki has, as the overprotected daughter of an unimaginably rich and influential family, no real idea of "normal" social situations. At the beginning of their second year of high school, a fifth member joins the club, an underclassman named Azusa Nakano who also plays guitar and usually struggles with the irresponsibility and carelessness of the other members. During their shared school career, all of them eventually manage to handle their problems together, making the light music club a more serious club bit by bit. Every day, the club gathers together to drink tea and eat snacks in the clubroom, which quickly becomes the club's trademark and finally leads to the band's name, "Ho-Kago Tea Time" (Afterschool Tea Time).

History of anime

Before we get into the different reviews about anime series, I thought I’d give a simple review of the history of anime. Animation first began in western Japan by film makers looking to expand their knowledge on different art styles. Different series became popular by depicting the lives of ordinary people through the use of animation, allowing for people to escape from reality into another world. Most anime series began in the early 1900′s in the form of comic strips. Anime became most popular in the 1980′s with different well known series like, Dragon Ball Z, as well as Real Robot. This new type of animation also gave way to several famous film makers such as Hayao Miyazaki who created the film Spirited Away. Yearly, anime produces $2.8 billion in revenue. Once being subbed or voiced over by American actors, the revenue doubles. To the left is an example of an older anime style, Dragon Ball Z while to the right is a newer series called Say I love you. The animation style has changed drastically over the span of 40 years.

Say I Love You

Basically from this point on I will be recommending new anime series to my fellow anime lovers out there (^__________^) A way to become familiarized with the way I will be doing these kinds of reviews is as follows. 1. I have the right to insert any emoji face when I find it necessary because they are just so darn kawaii. If you’re not entirely sure what emoji faces are just look in the first few sentences of my review and you’ll get the picture. Examples:
2. Every anime that I review will not pertain to a specific genre, so you will be guaranteed a variety of shows that will peek your interests. Examples: romantic, romantic comedy, action, fantasy, etc.
3. The way I will be formatting this specific blog will be the title of the show, followed by a brief summary and character analysis. Obviously my “expert” opinion will be accompanied by this summary.
Beginning the reviews today I’ve picked out a series called “Say I Love You” by Hazuki Kanae. This show was meant to be a romantic comedy between two high school students named Tachibana Mei (the female lead) and Yamato Kurosawa (the male lead). Mei is a completely isolated and reserved girl who decided from a young age to be extremely cynical of peoples intentions. On the other hand Yamato is a very popular boy in his class and is extremely outgoing. By a stroke of luck the two encounter each other causing multiple changes within themselves, as well as the friends and peers around them. I found this anime to be completely entertaining, the first time I watched it, I found myself becoming emotionally attached with the characters; feeling their pain and struggles. You find yourself sympathizing with Mei’s personal struggle of letting her guard down as well as Yamato’s constant persistence with trying to break Mei out of her shell. This anime has an underlying message that no matter what experiences define you as a person, there are always ways to recreate yourself.
